Bili Shelton Ehmann was born in 1917 and has been writing for nearly as long as she can remember. In addition to her poetry, she writes short stories, song lyrics, and a weekly column for The Enterprise, her local newspaper. She has also had many articles appear in the Reader’s Diary section of the Martinsville Bulletin. Additional samplings of her craft can be viewed on the Piedmont Writers Group website.  She is a founding member of this local organization which encourages and supports aspiring writers.

As a young woman, Mrs. Ehmann started her teaching career in a one-room school in the Stella community of Patrick County, Virginia. She grew up in this community, nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and resides there still.

“I just write simple poems about simple things”, she says, but some of her poems belie that simplicity. Through her many years of writing she has drawn her subject matter from her own experiences as well as from the stories and adventures of others. Her insight into their pain, joy, sorrow is beautifully recorded in her poems. Nature’s splendor and harshness are equally represented through the art of her pen.

We hope you will enjoy strolling through her Poetry Patch today. Please come by anytime, the gate is always open.
